WHAT IS LASIK ?

The latest in laser aided corrective procedures, LASIK, is an easy and effective way to better vision. LASIK is quick, painless and uncomplicated and has proven to be successful in over 99% of cases.

LASIK, Laser Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, is used to rectify refractive errors such as Near-sightedness, far-sightedness, and astigmatism and helps reduce dependency on glasses and contact lenses.

LASIK, which precisely reshapes the cornea surface, uses the Excimer Laser in combination with an instrument called the Microkeratome. LASIK is a laser technique used to increase the field and image differences between both eyes.

With computer accuracy, the procedure treats moderate to high levels of nearsightedness and moderate amounts of farsightedness and astigmatism.

How does it work?

The procedure utilizes an instrument known as Microkeratome to create a corneal "flap" of about one-third of the total corneal thickness.

An Excimer laser is then used to reshape the exposed middle layer of the cornea.

The Excimer laser produces a beam of cool ultraviolet light. The doctor programs your information into a computer that controls the laser. The laser produces a series of rapid pulses that remove small and precise amounts of corneal tissue. Excimer laser light does not penetrate into the eye and leaves other eye structures (iris, lens, and retina) undisturbed.

The laser also contains an auto-Centering eye tracking system, which will automatically compensate for any of your eye movements during procedure.

The flap is finally put back to assume a new shape created by the Excimer Laser.
